You are very welcome to these special events at St John’s. All normal service times continue unless replaced by something else. The Calendar also includes all of these events and activities and we also have a one page summary suitable for printing - please do share.
Sunday 1st
- 9:30am: Advent Sunday Parish Eucharist, including start of our travelling crib
- 6:30pm: Advent Carol Service, a simple candle lit service for the start of Advent as we prepare for Christmas.
Thursday 5th, 7:30pm, AT Society Christmas Concert, performed by Magic Voices and the Choir of Crabtree Junior School
Sunday 8th
- 5pm: Christingle service, family friendly ~ Learning about the light of the world and supporting the Childrens Society
- 7:30pm Christmas with the Continuum Choir
Tuesday 10th 2pm & 8pm: Advent Book Group, sign up in Church or email the Parish Office
Friday 13th, 3pm: Tea @ 3, friendly companionship over a cup of tea, homemade cakes and sandwiches. In the church hall.
Saturday 14th, 10am–3pm: Christmas Holiday Club, Primary School aged children (Reception to Y6) are invited to join us solo - younger children with a parent / carer - for a day preparing the Nativity Presentation on 15th December . Free, booking essential.
Sunday 15th
- 9.30am: All Age Nativity Service, all invited. Live Streamed.
- 5pm: Blue Christmas, a service for those who find Christmas difficult. All invited.
Monday 16th, 8pm: Hardynge Choir Concert
Thursday 19th:
- 7:30pm: Lea Singers – FestiveLea, their annual Christmas Concert
- 8pm: Beer and Carols, at the Engineer Pub. Over 18s only.
Sunday 22nd, 5pm: Nine Lessons and Carols, a traditional service of readings, music and singing. All invited.
Monday 23rd, 3pm: (The Night Before) The Night Before Christmas, a festive and fun afternoon of Christmas music.
Christmas Eve
- 11am: Carols Around the Crib, suitable for younger members of the family of pre-school age. A short service of carols
- 3pm: ‘Walking to Bethlehem’, telling the Christmas story as we walk through Southdown. Meet outside the Coop as we walk the journey to Bethlehem and finish at St John’s. Ideal for Children.
- 11.30pm: Midnight Mass, celebrate Christmas by Candlelight. Incense will be used at this service.
Christmas Day
- 8am: Holy Communion, in the Lady Chapel, no Carols. A quieter service to help start the day.
- 10am: All Age Parish Eucharist for Christmas Day, ideal for children with interactive talk. Live Streamed
Sunday 5th January, 9:30am, All Age Parish Eucharist for Epiphany, suitable for all the Family, with Blessing of Epiphany Chalk (House blessing) Incense will be used. Live Streamed
